It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

WELCOME
My name is Allison Ross, I am a recent graduate of The University of Akron. Currently looking for a full time teaching position, I have a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with an AYA [7th grade to 12th grade] Integrated Social Studies Lincensure.
I choose a career in education and to become a teacher because I have a keenness and love for learning, service, and making a positive difference in student’s lives. Being a teacher also gives me opportunities to be creative, be a part of a team, and community of learners/educators. Each day presents its own challenges and rewards to me teaching is a vocation. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for learning and my interest in history, geography, economics, citizenship and the other social sciences with students. I want my classes to have an understanding and appreciation of these topics and their importance as they are preparing for their future in a global society.
Though I love the social studies, I originally came from an art background; I received my BA in fashion design at Kent State University in 2010. I had always planned to go into education in the long run so after short time living and working in NYC, I decided to switch my career path to the field of education. While it may have been more logical given my first degree to go into art education, I have always been interested in the fields of history, anthropology, psychology, sociology and geography. Therefore it seemed natural for me to work toward a certification in the field of social studies.
* Atlas of a Social Studies Teacher, is my online education portfolio, with the addition of a technology blog that I periodically update.
